The fact is we are all, no matter where we live, surrounded constantly by stories, whether they are literal, oral or visual… the benign story I’m really growing tired of is the “humorous” story of the blonde woman who is either injured or humiliated all in order to sell beer. Not funny. I am tired of these stories. I am angered by these stories. There are other stories far more wondrous — stories of women claiming and reclaiming power, stories of rage and resistance and indefatigable courage, and stories of women and some men — reaching across great divides and into the most treacherous places on Earth where turmoil reigns and violence against women is unchecked, taking the hands of those women, helping to lift them up and leading them toward safety and sanctuary and self-determination. -Jennifer Beals

I spent my afternoon watching the pilot episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and that was all it took to know that everything presented herein is irrefutable fact.

Sam // Twilight Sparkle
A smart and studious pony who always has her nose in a book. Observant, clever, and witty, but can be mildly awkward when it comes to socializing. Brave and dependable in a crisis. Interns for a princess!!1 (That doesn’t really have anything to do with Sam unless you’re Kristen and me and are obsessed with shoehorning Sam into princess things.) Represents the element of magic.

Jack // Applejack
A natural leader with a good head on her shoulders. Reassures others when shit gets real. Can be quite stubborn and feisty. Comes from a big apple-named family that specializes in cakes and pies. Represents the element of honesty.

Daniel // Fluttershy
It’s not as if Daniel goes around getting birds to sing in glorious harmony (although who’s to say he couldn’t) but Fluttershy is definitely the diplomat of the group, what with her getting a manticore to chill out by talking to it. Usually quite shy, but can be a real threat when provoked. Represents the element of kindness.

Teal’c // Rarity
A very sophisticated, fashion-conscious pony. Speaks properly and exudes fabulousity. Look, this one was a bit of a stretch, but it’s not like Teal’c can be Pinkie Pie. Represents the element of generosity, which is quite fitting, thank you very much.

Cam // Rainbow Dash
Loves to fly at physics-breaking velocities. Has a tendency to run headfirst into danger without properly considering the hazards. Fangirls an elite team of pony pilots and dreams of being one herself. Represents the element of loyalty.

Vala // Pinkie Pie
Very expressive, energetic, and chatty. Laughs in the face of danger (literally.) Loves planning and throwing parties, as well as playing pranks on other ponies. Represents the element of laughter.
